My 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer stalls when sitting at a red light but not all the time, rpms go up then drop to 200 and car cuts off, already cleaned throttle body, changed fuel filter, changed map sensor, changed exhaust cam actuator solenoid and still stalls, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
ProTech:
Is the check engine light on at all when it dies out?
No check engine lite.
Ok, it does sound like a throttle body problem. Are you sure you cleaned it out really good? The Trailblazer throttle bodies need to be near spotless for it to make a difference. All inside and behind the throttle blade, etc.
Yes i removed it and cleaned it spotless, you could eat off it.
Ok good, did you take it for a drive afterward so it could relearn the idle again?
What about pressure fuel regulator?
The fuel pressure regulator does not usually cause a stalling condition after the vehicle is running. If it’s bad, it will usually cause a hard starting condition. But it’s not totally improbable, just unlikely.
The vehicle starts fine and starts rite up after it stalls.
Yeah, then I would say it’s definitely not a bad regulator. Have you done a fuel pressure check?
I have not done a fuel pressure check. Yes i did drive it for a while,it did not start acting up for 4 days after i did all the work.
I would at least check it to eliminate that as a problem for stalling out.
Thanks i will give that a try.
The motor stop running when i turn the a/c on.
How about a little more information like what kind of car you have?!?!
2005 Chevy Trailblazer
OK that’s better and I can surely help you. The problem you are experiencing is due to a throttle body that has too much carbon build up inside it. When you turn on the air conditioning, the compressor is an extra load on the engine. The engine can’t get enough air at idle to stay running with this extra load applied. What you need to do to resolve your problem is an easy fix. Just clean the throttle body out with a good cleaner such as carb cleaner or brake clean. Clean it thoroughly and then take it on a test drive. Once the idle is re-learned, your problem will be solved.
Also the radio control **** to turn channels or volume and on and off won’t work the radio and cd will switch back and forth,, what could could cause this — 2005 trailblazer.
You may need a new radio. It would have to checked out to be sure. This is not any kind of theft or security problem.
How do i clean the throttle body.
You need to remove the air intake tubing and plastic housing that is above the valve cover, then you can access the throttle body to clean it.
Thank you.
I have one more question I have a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup with a 5.3 liter When I start my pickup it wants to hesitate when in gear or when i take off with it and then it goes away after i drive it for about 30 seconds, it seems like it is acts up more when the pickup it parked on a slope like in my driveway. When it is idling it runs fine.
A couple things to check….look to see if the fuel pressure regulator is leaking, that would cause a problem like you describe. Also, if the intake gasket has a vacuum leak, it cause the same issue, but go away after the truck has warmed up a few minutes. Either of those two things can cause the issue you’re having with your Sierra.

YES I KNOW THIS SOUNDS ODD BUT MANY OF THESE PARTS WILL CAUSE THE SAME TROUBLE CODES THE HARDEST ONE TO FIND IS THE ENGINE AIR CHECK VALVE BECAUSE IT DOSE NOT COMPLETLEY FAIL IT STICKS .SO YES THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND MOST DEALERS CANT FIND IT
My name is spider, I hated to write . I fixed a 2002 trailblazer, doesn’t pass the emission test and with the same problem, engine shut off at the redlight, just call me , 615 573-…
what was it
i have a trailblazer 2002 my car some times r p m increased almost duble what i will do
I believe it might be the brake booster leaking air.if you brake at idle and it stalls its leaking and robbing air from youre motor which causes it to die!
I have a 2003 trailblazer with a 4.2 and so far I changed camshaft sensor , crankshaft sensor and it was running really bad wouldn’t go over 30 miles per hour
Ok we’ll I dropped the exhaust to see if it had a clogged catistylic converter and now the truck drives over 80 no problem but when in drive and hold foot on brake and floor it truck will lose all oil pressure and kill and then run bad for awhile and change back till do again
Fuel pressure test was perfect.
I been though hell and back trying to fix this vehicle I have my own shop and I did a lot to this vehicle please comment soon give me some ideas please

I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer and while I’m driving my check engine light pops on and also a light that reads reduce engine power. I continuosly have to pull over, turn the car off and start it up again to get where I’m going. What do you think this problem could be? I was told it was the Throttle Body.
And i had the fuel pressure check and it was fine.
I have a Chevy Trailblazer 2003. Starts up fine drives fine while in motion but once I am almost to a complete stop it wants to stall but only sometimes. Then it starts right back up but sometime momentarily it will have different issues such as engine light comes on or gas gauge goes to empty and light comes on then buzzer goes off or cruz control won’t ingage, but once i turn car off and sit for 20sec and restart car those issue went away and car drove fine till next time it happens(2-3/wk). Sometimes when i feel it wanting to stall if i gas it it won’t stall. I have cleaned the TB COMPLETELY, have replaced fuel filter, new Cam senson. Please help!
Get the computer codes scanned first. That will give you a clue where to look for the problem.
What is the plug in for going to the motor of my 2002 trailblazer?
Changed brake booster vacume elbow on mt Chevy trailblazer2002 LT 4×4 for better flow from one off a newer bravada! Runs best ever but getting a check engine light with reduce power light after hard exceleration. Not sure if it’s to much flow but it’s same size valve elbow just breathes much freeer and runs like never before the code is a p1484
I have an 02 Chevy trailblazer ext, 2wheel drive, 4.2 engine. I just did an oil change, cleaned throttle body, also replaced the air filter. Truck now idles real rough and when stopped it acts like its gonna die. Truck still wants to die when I turn A/C and the check gauges light comes on. But the gauges don’t show any problems.
Make sure you re-installed the hose on the under side of the air box on top of the motor. Very common to forget or not even see that.
@ Tom it is a whine noise.
On the Trailblazer, the noise is most likely the belt idler pulley. That is the one on the drivers side of the engine.
I just purchased a used 2003 Chevy Trailblazer with 146,000 miles on it, it runs good but only thing is that it makes a noise underneath the hood. The noise comes on and off. Just this morning it acted like it wanted to cut off on me. I’m a female and don’t know too much about vehicles but others tell me its the fan clutch and could be the water pump. Really need some help on what is going on. Please respond ASAP.. Thank you!
We need a little more information on the noise. Is it a whine, growl, knock, etc?
A noise would not cause it to stall out. This could be carbon in the throttle.
I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer it starts fine and runs fine but sometimes when I come to a stop it will die down and start shakeing bad some times the oil press will drop out when this hapens i have to shut it off and start it back up and all is fine what could it be?
did you find out what was wrong plese let me no
The shaking and the almost stalling out is the reason the oil pressure drops. The cause for the near stall condition is most likely carbon in the throttle. Read more information here…

2003 chevy trail blazer going 50 to 55 mph it start cutting out rpm goes from 1half to 2000 rpm”s when you keep rpm”s above 2000 rpm”s runs fine
Possibly a plugged catalytic converter or low fuel pressure. Have the fuel pressure checked and the exhaust backpressure checked.
engine light on, when idling and coming to stop light/sign, truck hesitates and acts like it is going to cut off, shakes real bad. Do you know what the problem is? Also i had to take my headlight fuses out because my headlights were not going out. Do you know anything about that also? Please help
Check for carbon buildup in the throttle. We would need the code from the computer to be more help.
Do you need more info,or do you have
an idea what my problem might be?
I have a 2002 Trail Blazer 4.2 Lt.motor
When I turn on the air cond.the engine
Runs funny at idle. I have replaced the
Throttle body, but it still does not idle
correctly.Does this engine have an
idle advance (vacuum or electric)like the
older motors had, when the air is turned
on?If not what could my problem be?
we had the same problem with our 2004 trailblazer only thing is our would shut down everytime we turned our air on we had to take it to the chevy dealership and have them reprogram the idle and them we had to replace the apps senor on the foot peddle now it runs great and doesnt stall out or idle funny when air is on
Truck stalls when stopping, runs perfect just quits when coming to a stop it seems.
Well since you did not tell us what kind of truck, year, make model, i would only guess you may have carbon buildup in the throttle. Is the engine light on? Is the engine cold or hot? Need more information.
Pinching off the brake booster causes such a fast change in vacuum, that may not have anything to do with your problem. To check for that, pinch it off and let idle stabilize and see if that corrects your problem. If not, check and clean any carbon from the throttle.
Hi my 2002 chevy trail blazer has almost the same problem the only difference is that my check engine is on
if you have the check engine light read at any auto zone or orileys they can see the code and most likely it will say that its your apps which is the sensor on the gas foot peddle thats what my problem with my 2004 trailblazer was after fixing several different things first
1996 GMC Sierra truck stalls when stopping it seems, other than that runs really good, checked IAC and sprayed brake clean for vacuum leaks, pinched brake booster line and it stumbles and stayed alive the first two times then quit, starts right back up no problems and long as i’m moving it runs good.
2002 Chevy Trailblazer throttle stays closed with truck on and rpm goes from 1000 to 3000 up and down.
If you have the new style Trailblazer with the 4.2 inline six cylinder engine, then you need a new throttle body. If you have the older style ‘Blazer’ with the 4.3 V6 engine, then you will probably need a new throttle position sensor. Either of those is the most common thing to cause your problem, just depends which style vehicle you have since you didn’t specify exactly and 2002 was a cross model year.
