After excessive overheating issues with my van we had replaced the intake gasket, thermostat, water pump and so only to finally spend 2400 and replace the head gasket for two day later the catalytic converter to go out is this normal. After excessive overheating issues with my van we had replaced the intake gasket, thermostat, water pump and so only to finally spend 2400 and replace the head gasket for two day later the catalytic converter to go out is this normal.

Yes, that is a quite normal thing to happen after an episode like that. The catalytic converter can only handle so much heat for so long, and if you were overheating bad, that just makes it worse. Also, with a bad head gasket, you were most likely pumping coolant right out the exhaust which is very detrimental to a catalytic converter. You’ll have to get the converter replaced to be operating normally again.
