I’ve got a 1999 Cadillac Deville and I know that the code P0741 is dealing with the torque converter. The car has about 109,000 miles on it, but it has been well maintained and the transmission shifts nice and smooth. My question is, can I still drive it like it is for a while or do I need to take it in right away, because to even get to the torque converter you have to drop the whole engine to do any maintenance to it?
RE: It is driveable with that code in the system, but you will eventually cause the torque converter to go out completely or lock up, which will keep you in the wrong gear. You can take the trans out without removing the entire engine/trans assembly, but a support fixture is required to do so.
