Reduced Engine Power and Silverado won’t start

      Started up Chevy Silverado and Reduced Engine Power light came on. Drove my truck 2 miles and hit a few pot holes and the truck was switching gears and locking and unlocking the doors by itself. Reached the destination and shut off truck and now it won’t start. Checked fuses and jumped start then it turned over but didn’t fire. Sounds electrical to me, does anyone have an idea what I should do next?

      Answer: Yes this is an electrical problem. You could have a bad ignition switch. That is what feeds power to most of the truck systems. Try tapping on the key cylinder when the problem is acting up. Sometimes that will cause it correct itself for a little while.

      Check for spark at the spark plugs and test for proper fuel pressure for the no start problem. Check for a loose ground wire on the back of the passenger side cylinder head right up against the firewall. This is and important ground wire and if it is broken or loose will cause many strange problems.

      After washing engine yesterday I drove about 4 miles today and the reduced power lamp came on with SES light and T/C lamp and she went limp. Truck has had no other problems up util the point. Any ideas hat the problem could be and can i fix it myself? e had a computer code scan done and there are so many codes i dont even know here to start or which ones are important.

      Answer: Try blowing of the engine compartment with a compressor or just let it dry out. You may have gotten water in a sensor connector and more likely in the distributor cap and rotor. This would cause spark to jump around and give the reduced warning and all kinds of misfire codes.

          You could have gotten water in anything- a sensor, wiring harness, etc. Either give it some time to dry out, or get an air compressor and blow out the engine compartment and all sensors and wiring. Take it to your local parts store and have them clear the codes- sometimes just disconnecting the battery for a few minutes does not work. Then see how it is.

      Yes, definitely electrical. I have read a post on this site about a ground problem on the back of the passenger side cylinder head causing the exact problems you are describing. Cant seem to find it right now, but i’m sure if you use the search you should find the article.
