My 2002 Saturn SL2 sounds loud when accelerating. It is not the exhaust system but I was told that it is the wheel bearings in the front of the car. Would this cause the car to sound louder when driving? and if not corrected, does it cost damage to the car?
RE: The wheel bearings/hub assemblies do sound pretty loud when they are bad. Usually a loud growl or roaring noise while driven. And yes, it will usually get louder or increase in noise as speed goes up. They should be changed if this is the case. If left alone, it get bad enough eventually that your wheel will come off while you’re driving down the road.
